Make Time for Downtime: Weekend Travel Tips |
|
Whether you're planning a quick hop over the pond for a real French dinner, or a long weekend at a cozy bed and breakfast, short trips can often do more to refresh and reinvigorate the spirit than the longer Winnebago-driven two-week odyssey. So if you have a few days coming to you, why not check out trips close to home. You might be surprised at what your region has to offer.
As with any trip, planning ahead makes all the difference. And when your time is short, you don't want to waste a moment. Most tourist destinations offer up-to-date websites where you'll find all manner of information about events, attractions, admission times and prices, hotels and restaurants, and even extras you might not have considered, such as hot air balloon rides or kayak rentals. They can also alert you to any last minute price breaks.
Don't forget to check the weather reports before you set out and tailor plans accordingly. And so you don't have to worry about access to cash, bring along your Wachovia Check Card.
Allow Plenty of Time to Get to Your Destination
If your travel will take most of one day, or if you have an event scheduled on the evening of your arrival, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination without rushing. Unexpected delays can hit you from out of nowhere.
Leave Work Behind
Avoid discussing business if possible. You've earned this break. Don't waste your time thinking about your market strategy! Now's your chance to unplug the laptop, turn off the cell phone and focus on what's really important. Work will still be there when you get back.
Be Flexible
Plans change. Be flexible enough to go with the flow to maximize your enjoyment. If you have the weekend planned down to the last detail you won't be able to enjoy the little unexpected side trips along the way.
Pamper Yourself
Since you're not incurring the cost of a long vacation, why not take advantage of local amenities and make it a trip to remember? Indulge in an aromatherapy massage, a romantic dinner cruise, or a wine tasting. Why not? You've earned it.
Make the Most of the Trip Home
It doesn't have to be a long hard slog if you plan for it. Remember, the shortest route might put you smack in the middle of rush hour traffic, while the long and winding road might be the more relaxing option. You'll arrive home relaxed and refreshed, with happy memories to enjoy, instead of aggravation over traffic jams. It also makes the trip last longer.
