3rd Quarter 2009  Getting Fiscally Fit

A Shopping Workout for Your Wallet

Between buying groceries, picking up the dry cleaning and gassing up the car, you are shopping every day. And, in tough economic times like these, every penny counts. Not to worry; with a little advance planning, everyone can become an experienced shopper. And of course, Wachovia is here to help with tips and tools to help you save as you shop.

Online coupons: the best kept secret
When money is tight, it's tempting to sacrifice quality to save a few dollars, especially since junk food is so much cheaper than healthy options. But, good news! You don't have to give up the healthy produce. Just shop smarter.

If you haven't discovered online coupons, it's time to take a look. Web sites such as thegrocerygame.com, dealofday.com and couponmom.com let you clip coupons for items you really want and use from supermarkets, big box retailers, and drug stores in your neighborhood. Many online retailers offer special deals for their customers. Be sure to check their Web sites for coupon codes and special deals, but before you order, check that delivery charge. It might negate the savings.

Save at the pump
Have you noticed that some gas stations offer a discount if you pay with cash instead of a credit card? Also, the least expensive gasoline has the lowest octane. Check your owner's manual to see what is the lowest octane that is appropriate for your car. And don't top off the gas tank. You run the risk of gas seeping out. That's bad for the environment and bad for your wallet.

Your Check Card can help your money go further
Wachovia Credit Cards and CheckCards enrolled in the Wachovia Possibilities Rewards (R) program have access to the Earn More Mall. By shopping over 400 online merchants through the mall, you can earn bonus points, get exclusive discounts and take advantage of free shipping offers! The rewards points are redeemable for hundreds of items including travel, gift cards, and merchandise.
